Tent of the year 2008 - Eureka! El Capitan Air Control 2

El Capitan Air Control from Eureka! has been elected as “Tent of the year 2008” by the prominent Dutch outdoor magazine “Op Pad” of the Dutch Tourist Union ANWB. .

Each year “Op Pad” magazine tests the new generation of tent models at weather resistance in rain, snow, hail and heavy storm, ventilation and details such as seam taping, coating of the fabric and colour-coded poles. Furthermore, the living space and the actual usability of tent are being tested.

Thanks to its outstanding ventilation, loads of space and the great price-quality ratio the Eureka! El Capitan Air Control was elected “Tent of the year 2008”.

According to the jury, the air circulation of the tent is brilliant. It is constituted by the fact that the bottom fly can be rolled up to create large ventilation openings. The two large doors on the front and backside of the tent can be opened in different ways so a windless opening is guaranteed. In combination with the tent’s shell shape it proofed to be extremely wind stabile during the test. Furthermore, the inner tent is high enough to provide enough space even for tall people. Two large vestibules complete the tent.

Summarizing, almost nothing can be criticised. The combination of great ventilation, good wind stability, space and great price quality ratio are unique.

Expedition continued: Eureka! is tradition in the Himalaya

In 1999, Eureka! expedition tents accompanied the Mallory and Irvine expedition to the Himalaya, where Eric Simonson and his team found the body of world-famous mountaineer George Mallory. Today, Simonson continues his Eureka! tradition during his trips to Tibet’s Cho Oyu.

E!Lite Harness – maatgemaakt comfort voor de rug

Only the best is good enough for Eureka! We thus invested almost 2 years of diligent R&D into the E!Lite Harness System for lightweight travel packs. Including test expeditions to the Himalaya, making it one of Eureka!’s most-tested innovations ever.  

The key to a comfortable pack is the right back length. E!Lite is fully height-adjustable with and thus fits most torso lengths. Together with attached shoulder straps and comfortable padding at the right spots, it makes sure that the pack sits comfortably even after hours of hiking. Air mesh is used throughout to increase air flow so that when you sweat, the pack does not.  

And especially for the active female traveller, Eureka! developed a ladies’ version of the harness, which is specifically designed to fit a woman’s torso, shoulders, and natural curves.

For her extraordinary tour of the world, Eureka ! sponsored Sophie de Courtivron with a Spitfire Solo Ultralight tent. Here is her amazing story: 

After three years of work in Paris, I start my stroll around the world. I wanted to follow my own path and to go hale and harty to meet ethnic minorities, farmers and exiled people. These people, who draw their reason of being from the soil they are made of or from the place where they were born, have the wisdom of the humble (from the latin word humus, « land »). I like the people who are only what they are : these plain souls are full of truth. Their common ground is their link with the earth on which peoples come into existence (civilizations), labour (men of the soil), identities (affective link), and also sometimes some daisies. I want to discover the Universal that is hidden and revealed by the connection to a soil, this kind of common mould in which real fraternity can germinate. Yes !

In September 2005, I grab my walking staff and head off from Dijon to… Budapest. Crossing high altitudes, the Alps, through Switzerland and Austria. The Hungarian plain, very very flat, is boring by foot so I continue my trip to Kiev with Rossinante, that I picked up in Budapest. Rossinante ? A bicycle !

Then, come on Russia ! This time by train. First, I travel through areas south of Moscow and then through Siberia and straight on into the deep far-East, till Vladivostok. From this point, I continue on foot along the great wall of China as far as, fed up by this tracking, the great wall makes it impossible for me to continue. In Mongolia, a ramble in the Gobi desert and on foot in the Arkhangai where, thank God, I always have the wind in my back. I go back to China to strolling about for two months, especially in the Xinjiang district, the land of the Uighurs and of the Taklamakan’s desert (by train, bus, foot). I don’t want to take the plane between the continents. Planes are for the busy businessmen and I have all the time in the world ! I cross the Pacific Ocean on a freighter boat (absolutely lawfullly : not INSIDE a container !). Destination : Los Angeles.

Then let’s go to Mexico from where I will soon leave to cross Central America on foot, and only on foot, through Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Walking is enjoying the journey, the track, the path, in itself, the plain act of moving forward. To live from hand to mouth. Not the kind of way that only goes somewhere. When you enjoy the movement by itself, you feel a kind of harmony and merging arising within yourself with what is the substance of life : time. You go. You are. You indulge yourself. Find yourself. That is great ! 

Then, if I can still stand up, let’s go to Peru, Bolivia, Brasil (the Amazonian part) and Venezuela ! I will cross the Atlantic ocean on a sailing boat and then steer for… East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Egypt, Libya) !

So now I am in Central America and I am again going to take my plebby old walking stick which has never given up, a plebby old reliable walking stick with memories of meetings engraved in Russian, Mongolian, Chinese…

EUREKA! sponsort fotograaf op zoek naar nomaden

Fotograaf Jeroen Toirkens wordt door Eureka! gesponsord met een K2XT 4 seizoenen  tent en een Eureka rugzak tijdens zijn zoektocht naar nomaden. Toirkens won in 2004 de derde prijs bij de wedstrijd om de beste journalistiek foto: “De zilveren Camera”.  Zijn foto’s worden verder regelmatig gepubliceerd in nationale en internationale kranten. De nomaden die hij bezoekt leven meestal in extreem afgelegen gebieden in Mongolië, Kirgizië, Turkije, Finland, Marokko en Rusland. Om goed te kunnen werken onder deze extreme omstandigheden is het noodzakelijk te kunnen vertrouwen op je uitrusting. Vandaar zijn keuze voor Eureka! Producten!

    

MADE TO MEET THE CHALLENGE - Getest: Autumn Wind XD

 "Zeer goed"! - Eureka!'s Autumn Wind XD werd getest

Het Duitse tijdschrift 'Alpin' heeft de Eureka! Autumn Wind is als 'zeer goed' getest, vergeleken met andere koepel en hybride tenten. De tweepersoons lichtgewicht Eureka! Autumn Wind nam het in de test op tegen producten van andere bekende tent merken, zoals Lafuma, The North Face, Vaude, Salewa en Robens. De Autumn Wind XD is een vrijstaande hybride tent, met een klein pakvolume, die geschikt is voor alle situaties waarbij naast een lichtgewicht ook een grote mate van stormvastheid nodig is. Grote stabiliteit, strakke zijpanelen, goede ruimte benutting, minimale afhankelijkheid van haringen en mobiliteit in opgezette vorm werden genoemd als de belangrijkste sterke punten van de Autumn Wind XD ten opzichte van de concurrentie.
De Autumn Wind werd duidelijk beter bevonden dan de andere tenten in de test, zoals de Vector 22 van The North Face, de Taurus van Vaude, de Grey Rock van Robens, de Refuge II van Lafuma en de Macpac Eclipse.

Alpin is een van de toonaangevende bergsport tijdschriften in de Duitse taal met een lezersaantal van 300 duizend in 2005. Het staat bekend om zeer uitvoerige en objectieve product testen.

2006 innovations - a success also in 2007

In 2006, Eureka! launched several new innovative products that have since enjoyed continuously increasing popularity. One of the most exciting is the Totokon.


The Totokon is an innovative 2 or 4 person, four season backpacking tent. New pole technology allows this tent to be more stormproof, lighter and have more interior space than most tents.

Eureka! is one of the first tent manufacturers in 2006 to use the reverse combi tent pole technology. This works like a bow - using higher bending stiffness poles where bending moment is higher. This way dome tents can be designed using steeper walls thus providing more interior space.

Eureka! helpt Wendy in 'Hart in Aktie'

In het programma Hart in Actie helpt Wendy van Dijk mensen die een extra steuntje in de rug kunnen gebruiken. Deze keer riep zij ook de hulp in van Eureka! en wel om Willy Smits te helpen.Willy heeft op Indonesisch Borneo een 2-tal opvangcentra voor Orang Oetans opgestart. Aangezien de bossen in hoog tempo gekapt worden op Borneo, slaan de Orang Oetans op de vlucht. Willy vangt deze ontheemde Apen op. Hierbij heeft hij geld en goederen nodig voor de apen en zijn medewerkers.

Eureka! kwam Wendy tegemoet en bezorgde het rescueteam van Willy een aantal tenten, slaapzakken, matjes en rugzakken.

Op de foto is te zien hoe de Wereld Natuur Fonds-panda met auto en alle sponsorartikelen op weg is naar het opvangcentrum.

Tunnel Vision TC: 'Familietent van het jaar'

De Tunnel Vision TC van Eureka! is door de SOS (Specialized Outdoor Shops) verkozen tot tent van het jaar 2004 in de categorie familie-tenten.

De SOS organiseren jaarlijks gezamenlijk enkele tentenshows waarbij bijna alle in Nederland verkrijgbare tentmerken aanwezig zijn. De organisatie van de SOS tentenshows is in handen van Spacsport, Bever, Demmenie Sport, Slee Buitensport, Carl Denig en Outdoor Magazine.
