Tent of the year 2008 - Eureka! El Capitan Air Control 2

El Capitan Air Control from Eureka! has been elected as “Tent of the year 2008” by the prominent Dutch outdoor magazine “Op Pad” of the Dutch Tourist Union ANWB. .

Each year “Op Pad” magazine tests the new generation of tent models at weather resistance in rain, snow, hail and heavy storm, ventilation and details such as seam taping, coating of the fabric and colour-coded poles. Furthermore, the living space and the actual usability of tent are being tested.

Thanks to its outstanding ventilation, loads of space and the great price-quality ratio the Eureka! El Capitan Air Control was elected “Tent of the year 2008”.

According to the jury, the air circulation of the tent is brilliant. It is constituted by the fact that the bottom fly can be rolled up to create large ventilation openings. The two large doors on the front and backside of the tent can be opened in different ways so a windless opening is guaranteed. In combination with the tent’s shell shape it proofed to be extremely wind stabile during the test. Furthermore, the inner tent is high enough to provide enough space even for tall people. Two large vestibules complete the tent.

Summarizing, almost nothing can be criticised. The combination of great ventilation, good wind stability, space and great price quality ratio are unique.

E!Lite Harness – tailor made comfort for your back

Only the best is good enough for Eureka! We thus invested almost 2 years of diligent R&D into the E!Lite Harness System for lightweight travel packs. Including test expeditions to the Himalaya, making it one of Eureka!’s most-tested innovations ever.

The key to a comfortable pack is the right back length. E!Lite is fully height-adjustable with and thus fits most torso lengths. Together with attached shoulder straps and comfortable padding at the right spots, it makes sure that the pack sits comfortably even after hours of hiking. Air mesh is used throughout to increase air flow so that when you sweat, the pack does not.

And especially for the active female traveller, Eureka! developed a ladies’ version of the harness, which is specifically designed to fit a woman’s torso, shoulders, and natural curves.

E!Lite means guaranteed custom fit for light and comfortable trekking! It is core feature of Eureka!’s backpack models Archimedes and Apollo.

The Archimedes is a fully-featured, internal-frame 62+8 Litre travel pack for the demanding, light-weight global traveller. Next to E!Lite, it features Eureka!’s unique Tri-lock full pack compression system which secures and stabilises the load for optimum weight transfer towards your back, so that it feels like you’re only carrying half the load. Includes a detachable 8- Litre multi-purpose, compressionable day pack with side pockets and internal divider.
The Apollo is a fully-featured, elegant and straight-forward internal-frame travel pack for the demanding, light-weight traveller. Features Eureka!’s Double “V“ side compression straps that confine the load top to bottom and front to back to stop the load from shifting, leaving you walking steadily for hours to come.

Unique innovation in Ultra-light tents

Skylite 2 (1,64kg)        Autumn Breeze 2 (2,16kg)         Spitfire Solo (1,1kg)

Three new Eureka! 2007 ultra-lightweight tent models once again prove our innovative design and technology.

First in the range is the Skylite 2 SUL 20D, a novelty to the European market. The lightest freestanding double wall tent in the series - with a minimum weight of 1,64 kg and full weight of 1.75 kg - is made of 20 Denier siliconized ripstop nylon. Eureka! is the first manufacturer introducing this new ultralight fabric in tent design to the European market. The inside of this fabric is PU coated, fire retardant and all seams are taped. The Skylite measures 220 x (max.145; min. 100) x 105 cm which makes this tent big enough for two full size sleeping mats.

The next new introduction in this series is the Autumn Breeze 2 SUL made of 33D siliconized ripstop nylon with a minimum weight of 2,16 kg. This 3-pole freestanding design offers more space inside and high stability.

The range is completed by the Spitfire Solo SUL with a minimum weight of 1,1 kg.

All models have an optimal space-to-weight ratio which makes them perfect for lightweight backpacking, canoeing and cycling.

On va. On est. On s´abandonne.

 … A suivre !

Eureka! sponsors prize-winning photographer on expeditions to nomads

Photographer and globetrotter Jeroen Toirkens was sponsored by Eureka! with a K2XT 4 seasons tent and backpack for his expeditions in search of nomadic tribes. In 2004, Toirkens won the third prize in the Dutch national competition “The Silver Camera” for the best journalistic photograph. His pictures are published in Dutch and international magazines on a regular basis. The nomads he visits usually live in the harsh environments of remote and desolate areas in Mongolia, Kirghizia, Turkey, Finland, Morocco and Russia. In these extreme circumstances, it is absolutely necessary to be able to rely on your equipment. This is why Eureka! products are his number one choice.

Pictures and a logbook of Jeroen’s travels and his project NomadsLife can be viewed on www.nomadslife.com

  • MADE TO MEET THE CHALLENGE - Tested: Autumn Wind XD

Verdict: Excellent! - Eureka!'s Autumn Wind XD stood the test

Dome or hybrid tents till €300 were tested in the July edition of the sport magazine Alpine - and Eureka!'s Autumn Wind XD received a very good rating. This small pack size, two person, freestanding design, tent, which is ideal for all lightweight travelling, went during the Alpin test into the fight with famous tent brands like e.g. Lafuma, The North Face, Vaude, Salewa and Robens. The high stability, the very tight side panels, the good space utilization, the minimal use for stakes to stabilize the tent and the mobility in standing form have been pointed out as excellent features on this 3-pole structure tent.  Obviously stronger during the test, the Autumn Wind XD outclassed the Vector 22 of the North Face, the Taurus of Vaude, the Grey Rock of Robens, the Refuge II of Lafuma and the Eclipse of Macpac.

Simply made to meet the challenge!

This magazine for adventurers and outdoor fans has a monthly sales edition of pc. +/- 30.434 and in 2005 had a range of +/- 308.000 readers. The Alpine tests are done by certificated laboratories or by Alpin themselves, where the most important fact “same conditions for all products” should be given.Objectivity of the test team and critical evaluations here always are given.

    2006 innovations - a success also in 2007

In 2006, Eureka! launched several new innovative products that have since enjoyed continuously increasing popularity. One of the most exciting is the Totokon.

The Totokon is an innovative 2 or 4 person, four season backpacking tent. New pole technology allows this tent to be more stormproof, lighter and have more interior space than most tents.

Eureka! is one of the first tent manufacturers in 2006 to use the reverse combi tent pole technology. This works like a bow - using higher bending stiffness poles where bending moment is higher. This way dome tents can be designed using steeper walls thus providing more interior space.
